Lisboa

Capital of Portugal, it was born of "the ruins of a Roman Settlement in the Iberian Peninsula", situated north of the S. Jorge Castle. It became Capital of the Kingdom in the 14th Century. It suffered a greath Earthquake in 1755, and with the reconstruction work, the "Pombaline down  town" appeard, (wich main stimulator was Marquês do Pombal), with the levelled streets structure, and with odd constrution regulation for the period. Nowadays Lisboa has more than 500.000 inhabitants and a metropolitan are a more than 2.500.000 inhabitants, a mixture of origins not only of other regios of Portugal, but also from the entire world, assuming itself as a great European Capital.
